Youth Protection Training

Effective September 1, 2017, Youth Protection Training (YPT) will be required for all Adult Leaders (including Tiger Cub parents) at the time of registration.

Paper applications from new Adult Leaders must be accompanied by a YPT completion certificate, which must be filed with the application.

Because completion of YPT is now required for all leaders at the time of registration, unit leaders must obtain copies of the YPT completion certificates from the Adult Leaders who register online before approving their application.

With the upcoming renewal cycle, the Internet Rechartering system will be updated so that units cannot submit the registration renewal of any Adult Leader who does not have current YPT as of the effective date of the renewal. Completion of YPT as part of the online registration system will be required in a future update. Additionally, Council registrars will no longer be able to override the registration system to register any leader whose YPTraining is not current.

Effective beginning the 2018 BSA summer camp season, any Adult Leader accompanying a Boy Scout Troop to a residence camp or other Scouting activity lasting 72 hours or more must be registered as an Adult Leader, including completion of a CBC and YPT, even if they are the parent of a youth on the trip.

Please Note: Texas State Code YC06-0014 supersedes the above overnight activity requirement; Face-to-Face Youth Protection Training (F2F YPT) is required for all Adult Leaders attending a Council camp, including Summer/Winter/Day/Twilight Camps. In Circle Ten Council, if the Adult Leader does not have proof of current F2F YPT, they will be required to attend that training at the first-offered F2F YPT course upon arrival at camp.

Reminder #1:
YPT training of any kind is effective for two (2) years from the date of training completion.

Reminder #2: ALL Adult Leaders (including Merit Badge Counselors), regardless of which BSA program they participate in, MUST have a current YPT completion certificate on file for course Y01. In addition to a Y01 certificate, Adult Leaders for Venturing (or other programs which are co-ed) must ALSO have a YPT completion certificate for course Y02. Adult Leaders in BSA's Exploring program must ALSO have a YPT completion certificate for course Y03 in addition to course Y01.

Important Note:
IF any Adult Leader in Five Trails District has taken F2F YPT (instead of or in addition to) the online YPT training, their F2F YPT will not "automatically" be recorded in BSA's online system for training records. Therefore, they may "appear" to be non-compliant when, in fact, they have met the requirement. To avoid the challenge resulting from this, Adult Leaders may send their F2F YPT information to the Five Trails District YPT Advocate, who will update their YPT information in BSA's online system. To request registration of one's F2F YPT completion, Adult Leaders should email a copy of their F2F YPT card to along with the full name under which they are registered AND their BSA member ID #. The Five Trails District YPT Advocate will confirm (by return email) that their training record has been updated after completion of this task.
